Wind is the oldest adversary of anyone who records outside. It arrives without warning, rumbles through the low end and turns a perfect morning recording into an unusable take. Since Cortiça came out, a windfilter that fits it properly has been the thing people asked me for most. So here it is.
The Furry Windfilter is made of recycled synthetic fur on an ABS frame, and slips over a Cortiça microphone. I tested it against a bare microphone in winds of 39 to 49 km/h (22 to 27 knots): it reduces wind noise by about 25 dB, while the response at 1 kHz moves by only 0.1 dB. The wind stays out; the sound stays the same.
Take it to a beach, a ridge, a city square in a storm, a boat. It is there so you can stay out longer, and come back with the recording you went for.
The Furry Windfilter costs 44 € on its own, or comes as part of the matched pair of Cortiça microphones with Furry Windfilters.
